School District
Bontheia (B.J.) Chatman, senior facilities scheduler for community services/rentals, might be described as the booking agent for the Anchorage School District. She schedules more than 50,000 events each year, keeping a potential tangle of dates and places in complete order. Chatman is the Anchorage School District Employee of the Month for February. She has worked for the district for 10 years. Chatman schedules all of the community and district activities in the elementary schools. She likes to go beyond the paperwork, the telephone and the computer to help people. "I don't see it as just a room to be scheduled. I see 15 Brownies and their leader standing outside the door trying to get in the school. Their happiness depends on how well I do my job," she said. Scheduling so many events each year brings Chatman into contact with people from all walks of life. "The greatest challenge of my job is public relations. You have to let the people know you care, but you still must do your job fairly and firmly," she said. Dale Young, manager of community services/rentals,
places many responsibilities on Chatman. "RI. 's commitment
to her work and to the community she serves is reflected in every
facet of her work. When she is assigned to difficult projects,
she consistently produces accurate and detailed results," he
said. She attends Antioch Church of God In Christ where she enjoys working with the children, and she volunteers at Our Lady of Compassion Care Center. The family enjoys cross country skiing and visiting their cabin at Lake Louise during the summer. She is married to Fred who works at Facilities/Maintenance. They have a daughter, Trish, who is a second-grader at Northern Lights ABC.
